What is in the name ??

The latest news that Director-Actor-producer S.J.Suryaah has "booked" for a name 36-28-36 for his new film has triggered a lot of controversies

For those who do not know who this Suryah is, here is a recap.

S.J.Suryaah is the director or Vaali (Ajith and Simran), Kushi (Vijay and Jyothikha) and the biggest sensation of 2004, New (Suryah and Simran). His latest movie which he is now shooting was titled Best Friend with the letters B.F. being prominent in the titles. Of late he has agreed to rename his movie. In fact he has even announced that he is ready to pay 1 lakh (yes 1 followed by 5 zeroes) rupees for some one who can come with a 2 letter tamil word for his movie that deals with friendship and love. Update 1: Director Suryah has renamed his movie a-aa (the first two alphabets of Tamil)
Update 2: A freak accident (due to wooden ladder breaking down) has led to hospitalisation of 6 lightboys of the movie
Update 3: It is learnt from sources that the director has recorded a new song for the movie with only 2 sounds "ah" and "aah" and every one including the music director is pretty confident that the song will not escape Sensor. Hope you all remember the theme !! music in Vaali

As I read this news of "36-28-36", i recollected the titles for the skits we had in our college days. Being associated with most of the inter college and intra collegiate cultures during my college days, I had the opportunity to see many skits. In fact, I had even witnessed few skits which were never made public.

In most of the skits, where the skit makers decide to add a bit of spice, the first target for them is the title. And special attention is taken for the way the title is exhibited in the posters. Many titles which are innocent will behave differently the way it is written.

In fact, Tirunelveli has already witnessed titles like "36-28-36", and Best Friend. The very good title Sundara Kaandam, was written as Sundara Condom with a condom image drawn near it. The dialogue "mattu ... hhmmm.... raasathi" spoken behind a bed sheet held vertically used to elucidate pin drop silence for a moment and then when the bed sheet is taken the crowd used to erupt into laughter. Sundara Kandam is a section of Ramayana that deals with Hanuman.

There was another skit named 2042 A lollu story. There was a big circle around the A in the posters. This skit enacted in Tirunelveli Medical College Auditorium in the Students Council Inauguration on a Monday 1997 July caused a stir in the campus for a week. The entire audience of the fairer sex staged a walk out in the middle of the skit. The next day they demanded that the students who acted in the skit be punished. The Dean had to pacify them and held a meeting with them in the evening in Anatomy Lecture Hall.

On the following day (Wednesday) he spoke to the boys and the next day (Thursday) he spoke to the girls in Lecture hall. In the end a resolution was adopted that all scripts should be given to the Fine Arts Staff Adviser and then only taken to the stage.

After that the skits were "vetted" and became "vegetarian". Then there was a story planned depicting unity among religion. The moving screenplay (or stage play) was scripted and rehearsed before the staff adviser of the students council and staff advisor of the Fine Arts Association. The heavy scenes were made more heavy by playing the background score from Movie Bombay (A.R.Rahman) . The skit was aptly titled as Shajahan - Kitcha - Lawrence. Till then there was nothing eventful. But the students had their last laugh in the posters. The title was written in tamil with the first letters extra large
