Open Seats - 430

321 BC students,
57 MBC students
14 SC students will get into the open competition.
38 Forward Community

This literally means that students from BC and MBC score well than the Forward Community Counterparts

This also means that the students from the so called forward community are able to get LESS THAN 10 percent of seats available......

That is if 430 seats are available forward community gets 38

If 100 seats are available Forward Community will get 9 seats (38*100/430)

If 81 seats are available Forward Community will get 8 seats (38*85/430)

So WHEN 100 seats are available

WITHOUT RESERVATION
FOrward Community will get 9 seats

WITH 18 % reservation for SC and 1 % reservation for ST
Forward Community is getting 8 seats

That means, reservation is giving JUST ONE OUT OF THE 100 Seats from Forward Community to the SC and ST

Why then there is such a huge cry against Reservation ??

How is this possible in Tamil Nadu ????? ie students from backward communities outshine those from forward communities

2 Answers for this question

1. Periyar
2. Kamarajar

Doctors from Forward Communities cannot get seats BECAUSE THE STUDENTS FROM THE "BACKWARD" COMMUNITIES PREFORM BETTER THAN THE STUDENTS FROM THE "FORWARD" COMMUNITY

Now if you want to know how is this possible in Tamil Nadu and not (at present) in most other states ......

It is because Of two significant events in the history of Tamil Nadu that changed the socio - economico - political nature of this land

1. Entry into Vaikkam Temple by Periyar
2. Noon Meal by Kamarajar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-day_meals

If backward communities are performing better than the forward communities, can we really call them backward any longer

Yeah... The back ward communities are faring better....... Can you guess the reason......

It was because of the Education drive initiated in this state 40 years ago..... by the MID DAY MEAL PROGRAM. (please check this link to know more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-day_meals)

What happened in Tamil nadu is quite simple........

The then chief minister Kamarajar made the children from backward communities to study in the schools.... by providing free meals.... and scholarships and jobs

Thus came a generation of teachers and clerks in the 70s and 80s from these communities . The children of those people (teachers and clerks and other educated people) are able to compete with the forward class students.....

So We can safely conclude that reservation has UPLIFTED the down trodden........

In few years, there will be a scenario where the seats in the open category are grabbed by students in ratio that reflects the general population........ When we reach such a state, That is an indication that there is no forward community and no backward community.....

For example

When there are 100 seats if the backward community students are able to take 75 of them and the SC/ST 20 of them and Forward Community 5 of them (5% of population is Forward, 20 % is SC and 75 % is Backward) it is the time to stop reservation
In that case,is backward community reservation in Tamilnadu really required at all now?

As of now the backward communities are NOT ON PAR, they are little backward.... May be the situation will come to a level ground in another 5 years.... THen we can think modifying the present policies

BUT WHAT I HAVE TOLD IS FOR TAMIL NADU ONLY....... This may not hold good for other states because of reasons I have already told

--- Not sure I understand what you are saying. Isn't reservation in TN 69%?
If reservation was 0% wouldn't more students who happen to be FC get more Medical seats (they will get at least some of those seats currently taken by students who use BC, MBC and SC/ST quota). Hope you now understand the reason for protest - opportunity stolen.

You say:
"When there are 100 seats if the backward community students are able to take 75 of them and the SC/ST 20 of them and Forward Community 5 of them (5% of population is Forward, 20 % is SC and 75 % is Backward) it is the time to stop reservation"

Again wrong - You are assuming that students from every community has the same penchant for studies. Some communities may be interested in business rather than studies, some communities may be inclined to study. For example, there are more Jewish Lawyers in the US than their proportion of population. Are you saying, the number of Jews who study law should be reduced by enforcing a law. This kind of logic is just absurd.

If this is the logic, every field, every opportunity in the country will have to be distributed to the people based on the percentage in the population. Why don't we have quota in Indian Cricket team then?

May the best win! With 50 years of reservation, I believe the BC and MBC communities have improved tremendously. 90% of government jobs in TN are held by BC, MBC and SC/ST. BC and MBC community own 85% of all land in TN.
BC and MBC communities do not need reservation anymore - The medical examination selection results clearly supports the need to bring back reservation to 22%.

Please see the continuation post.....

As you say, "With 50 years of reservation, I believe the BC and MBC communities have improved tremendously "........ BUT NOT TO THE LEVEL OF THE FORWARD CXOMMUNITY............. So in another 5 to 10 years, the society does not really need reservations for BC and MBC (this is my opinion).

But for this to happen in whole India, you have to implement Mandal COmmission's recommendation...

Well,it was ainteresting peice of article.Amazing thought.I was just thinking contrary to your logic.Do you have any data regarding % wise participants in these competitive exams. It may so happen that.because of near impossiblity of getting admision ,in this highly discriminatory system, most of eligible FC would have not even appeared for the exams! They would have rather gone for oteher green pastures(Like going abroad for higher education or other career avenues)So its mostly OBC/BC/ST/SC who would have been left in the fray, and hence this skewed statistics.

I am not able to understand this. If they were able to get in the TOP 430 ranks, they would have got.

Please note that NOT ALL SEATS are reserved.

Only those who know that they have SCORED LESS MARKS THAN A BC OR MBC will think that it is impossible to get a seat.

//They would have rather gone for oteher green pastures//
That means they should have done their school abroad

I don't know a case of a single person (WHO WANTS SEAT) who has not applied for Medical Admission after scoring 200/200 !!!!

Now come to this scenario

If a person scores 200/200 and yet do not apply, that means he is NOT INTERESTED. Then he should not complain about Reservation

The point is highlighted to show the simple fact that EVEN WITHOUT RESERVATION the forward Caste can get just one percent more than the seats

SO the fact that Reservations are spoiling their chance is not valid

But yet, Reservations spoil their chance - not now - but after one generation

The reason why BC/MBC and SC are able to compete along with FOrward Caste TODAY is because of the reservations one generation before

SO this answers another point - The effectiveness of reservation

This particular article should be read by all those "champions" of merit who act as though a huge injustice has been meted out to them. All these television channels(owned by upper castes) keep circulating the myth that reservation to lower castes is diluting the standard of institutions. Being a doctor myself it is refreshing to see one of my kind put forth such logical arguments.
