Why few people are so perverted

I was totally shocked to read a blog post accusing a noble effort.

For the uninitiated, this is what had happened

Kiruba's neighbour, a college student met with an accident, was admitted in Apollo Hospital and had Spinal Injury which could even make him paraplegic for the rest of his Life.

Kiruba just mentioned that, as a passing notion and said that the day was his (boy's) birthday. That's all.

Few guys offered to pray for the boy, at least one guy wrote him giving (?? unwanted) medical advice and few said that they are ready to pay a small amount to share the burden. Then many bloggers spread the news by their blog and emails (to school and college groups)

As a result, wishes and prayers poured into him for his recovery and few even chipped in with their contributions

The boy's middle class parents have to pay a hospital bill of Rs 8.5 lakhs. His college mates have collected money. Even college students from SRM, who have never ever heard of Prabhu contributed. Do you know why the contribution from SRM college students is so special

And here's why this help is so very special. None of the students from SRM know about Prabhu. They have never seem him much like most of you. Prabhu is a student of Mohd.Sadak Engineering college. The SRM guys will only know how Prabhu looks like when I mail them the photographs.

A couple of student voluneteers from Mohd.Sadak had gone to SRM and requested their friends out there to help. A few compassionate students from SRM took up this task and spread the word around the campus and helped collect Rs.1.03 lakhs. Notice carefully that the cheque has been drawn in the name of Apollo Hospitals to make sure that the money goes only for the hospital expenses. They also gave Rs.5000 in cash knowing that the parents might need cash for other expenses.

I had goosebumps. I was amazed at the maturity of the students.
It seems that everything is well and good and going to a happy ending. Unfortunately, we still have among us few perverted beggars, who tarnish Kiruba with posts like this
Having collected about Rs 200,000, Kiruba is either in the midst of, or has paved the way for, the biggest scam of the blogosphere.

If you are a blogger, need money badly and don't fake an accident to someone you know or to yourself, you must be stupid. There is no accountability and the blogosphere is filled with aym-gramd bastards. It's only logical that reasonably smart people resort to scam.
How absurd. There are many ways to exhibit mental depravity. This (launching personal attacks on a noble cause) is definitely not one of the ways.

Look how SRM College guys have acted and how one moron is trying to bring down this noble cause. (I have not given the name or Url of this guy because I don't want to popularise his blog)

My full support to Kiruba in this endeavour. And a message to Kiruba

"Sticks and stones are hurled only on the tree that bears fruits" Keep your good work going !!!!

Don't just blame the government, babus, politicians and corruption

Sujai asks

What is it about us that don’t allow us to practice something that makes sense right away? Is government involved here? Is the system wrong here? Are the politicians corrupt here? Is it caste-politics or communalism here? What is it in play here?
Nothing........

The fault is with "We the People"...... For most of our troubles, though we blame the Government, the substantial quantum of fault lies with us and the main problem is ATTITUDE

Or is it just about our attitude- the utter lack of social responsibility?

This lack of social responsibility is seen in other phases too. I was watching two young girls walking on the road next to my office. Very nonchalantly, they just threw trash, plastic and paper on the middle of the road while conversing away to glory. That particular scene was imprinted in my brain. They were educated girls, could be college-going or could be software professionals, they were nicely dressed, were talking in English.
A classic example of shifting the entire blame on to the Government happened during the Chickungunya outbreak in Tamil Nadu

Breeze which played in the river and hair dressed in trees

You too NDTV

http://www.ndtv.com/morenews/showmorestory.asp?category=National&id=100614

NDTV, known for accurate reporting, has missed the boat in the above News....

I am sure that you will know that Real Life is very much different from Cinema, where the patient is wheeled into the operation theater directly from the ambulance.

The patient is assessed using various criteria, whether the patient can withstand anaesthesia. When the pulse rate, BP and other blood parameters are not favourable, the patient will immediately collapse when Anaesthesia is given. For such patients, the surgeons wait for sometime before starting the surgery. The wait is for the body to recover, and the BP and other parameters to shoot up. This is the same process, whether it happens in Apollo or Thoothukudi Medical College Hospital

For example, Kiruba's Neighbour had an accident and was operated after five days, while the other boy involved in the same accident was operated after three days. If you look at the two links you will know that the boy who

is out of danger. The doctors have said that he can be discharged within a week.
was operated 3 days after admission and the boy whose spinal cord has been crushed was operated after 5 day

Look at what Alexis Leon has to say
In the hospital the doctors immediately found out that I have a spinal cord injury. But since my condition was not stable the doctors decided to postpone operation for some time. I spent seven agonizing days in the intensive care unit.
I am giving these examples to show that the delay in taking up a case for surgery is intentional and in the interest of patient.

On the other hand, whenever such a time is given for recovery of the patient in a GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL, the media (with absolutely no knowledge about this field) immediately spins stories that the delay is medical negligence.

In that case reported in Thoothukudi GH (I am not working there. My department is Public Health), the patient was brought to the hospital in a very bad case (like the guys quoted in the above examples).

The patient was not operated because the Blood Pressure was very low, and the anesthetist was of the opinion that the patient will not survive the surgery if anaesthesia is given before the BP shoots up.

Not every death in a hospital is due to medical negligence and not every case can be operated as soon as the patient is wheeled in.

I expect much more accurate reporting from Sam Daniel

Life can be so cruel

One of my Seniors met with a Fatal Road Traffic Accident in the early hours of Valentine's day, on his way back home after having self driven his new Car for 160 kilometres the previous night to meet his would-be.

For him life seemed to be moving so well. He had completed Post Graduation, got selected into Government Service, was having a successful private practice and was getting ready to marry.

It is a double blow for his parents who had earlier lost his younger sister few years ago and are not totally devastated with the loss of both their children.

After having heard this, I feel that Kiruba's neighbour is really a blessed boy, who has survived the accident, and more importantly has prayers and wishes pouring into him for his recovery. If you want to share his burden, please Chip In.
